| What the client asked for
Create a new country-style kitchen, family dining room, family room, and view deck with access to an existing patio.
Provide a multipurpose room for crafts projects with a pantry and family lockers, plus space for an office, laundry, and powder room.
Solutions
Moved the kitchen from the center to the view side of the house and made it the focus of the remodel. Appointments include cherry cabinets, marble counter tops and back splash, a custom soapstone sink and surrounding counter top, and a custom stainless-steel range hood and backsplash.
Created next to the relocated kitchen a new family dining room with access to a new deck overlooking the Lake Washington view.
Turned an existing lanai porch into a new family room, next to the dining room, also with access to the new deck.
Developed new spaces off the kitchen, including:
- A crafts area large enough for a table and chairs for the children to do crafts and homework. It also includes lockers for each family member and general storage.
- A new office with many cabinets and a view window.
- A walk-in pantry.
- A new laundry with plentiful storage and new windows.
Upgraded an existing powder room with new trim, wall coverings, flooring, and fixtures.
Applied details throughout the remodel to match the existing Georgian architecture. These included flooring patterns, ceiling beams, window styles, and trim styles. The result maintains the grace of the original house.
