Careful analysis of the homes existing structure and utilities showed how the original kitchen layout had been driven by poor placement of walls and plumbing lines and a basement stairway opening that took up more space than necessary.
Accordingly, we reconfigured the space taken up by the kitchen and breakfast nook, a mudroom, and a small bedroom by:
- Adding a steel beam to remove a section of wall near the back door to open up enough space for an island.
- Reworking an existing plumbing chase and basement stairway framing to create new space for the refrigerator.
- Gutting the existing kitchen and redirecting all wiring and plumbing to support an efficient layout.
- Turning an adjoining mudroom into additional storage.
- Changing a small adjacent bedroom into a home office.
Finishes and fixtures all harmonize with the homes 1920s stucco Tudor architecture. All appliances are state of the art: Wolfe gas range, Sub Zero refrigerator, etc. |
